Though not our primary focus, livestock have an important role on our farm as a tool to sustainably manage our pasture, as fertility providers (free manure!), and as a protein source for our family and customers. Our Gotland sheep are multi-product breed- each animal gives us delicious meat, gorgeous hides, and wool that we make into yarn for fiber artists.
Squash Blossom sheepskins are one of a kind, stunning pieces for your home. They add coziness and warmth to any room and are often used as decor or lap blankets. Our hides come exclusively from animals raised here on the farm that have been processed for meat. It takes hours of painstaking work to save, cure, clean and tan each one into a beautiful heirloom. Hides are threshed and salted at our farm, then sent to Driftless Tannery- a women-run operation in Wisconsin that uses natural processes to tan hides instead of the harsh chemicals that are prevalent in much commercial hide tanning. Sheepskins of this quality are simply not available anywhere outside family farms raising heritage sheep like ours.
Sheepskins are machine washable but we recommend doing so only when absolutely necessary, as it will toughen the leather side.
We hope you enjoy these beautiful and comfortable products! Stay tuned for more wool products coming in the future.
